The Shinjuku Gyoemmae Residence was conceptualised as a forward-thinking residential development that caters to the needs of modern urban residents. Situated in a prime location near Shinjuku Gyoen Park, this development was envisioned to provide efficient, comfortable, and sustainable living spaces that seamlessly integrate with the surrounding cityscape. The client’s primary objective was to create a high-quality residential building that meets the demands of single occupants and small families, while incorporating modern facilities and environmentally conscious design principles.
The design brief emphasised the creation of 118 residential units, each tailored to optimise space utilisation and enhance the quality of life for residents. A key feature of these units is their lofted configuration, designed to maximise vertical space within a compact footprint. This not only improves the functionality of the living areas but also provides flexibility for various uses, such as workspaces, sleeping areas, or additional storage. The interiors were planned with an open layout, allowing natural light to flood the spaces through floor-to-ceiling windows, creating an airy and inviting atmosphere.
The building also serves multiple communal purposes, reflecting the client’s vision of fostering a sense of community and catering to modern lifestyles. A double-height entrance lobby was designed to act as a welcoming focal point, blending natural materials with sophisticated design elements. This space transitions into the building’s other shared facilities, including a co-working area that responds to the growing need for flexible workspaces.
The co-working space was carefully integrated to support productivity while maintaining a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment.
