The “drygalski” project by BUWOG is a four-floor residential complex planned by Studio VlayStreeruwitz with public green and communal areas at the doorstep. It is being constructed on the Obere Alte Donau in one of Vienna’s most fascinating new development areas. The complex consists of one building with two stairwells and a total of 94 apartments and four storage areas. Each apartment offers between 45m² and 150m² of floor area and has a private open area – be it a private garden, balcony, loggia or terrace. Residents can also look forward to a spacious communal room with a communal terrace, a laundry room, and storage areas for bicycles and prams.

The drygalski project was designed on the basis of human needs when living in an urban centre. BUWOG’s guiding principle is “We build for people – socially, sustainably and with diversity in mind.” The energy supply via district heating is supplemented by an in-house cooling system and a rooftop photovoltaic installation. Located in the “An der Schanze” development area, the project forms part of a vibrant, diverse and energy-efficient urban quarter with spacious open areas, shopping, services, leisure and educational facilities, all within easy reach of the city centre.

The theme of the project is “green and liveable.” A large public green space, the “urban wilderness,” will ecologically stabilise the district, connect local biotopes, preserve biodiversity and improve the microclimate. Designed as a low-traffic area, drygalski encourages walking and cycling, creating a more pleasant environment and improving quality of life for future residents.
