The Dahan Library project by K.S. United Architectural Firm was developed to establish a professional image for the “Dahan Library” and to make clear its core missions: conservation, recreation, and research in managing national parks, national park bureaus, and coastal areas under the jurisdiction of the new agency. These missions define the library’s purpose and guide its public-facing role.

Designed from the outset for the National Army, the library supports military academic research, training, and operational readiness. Located in Longtan District, Taoyuan (R.O.C.), it aims to create a solemn, concise, quiet, bright, warm, and comfortable space for reading and research. It uses a two-storey height and towering bookshelves to give the feeling of being immersed in the vast sea of books.

The design introduces a universal user- friendly environment, focusing on gender, individuals with disabilities, the elderly, women and children, and environmentally conscious users. Smart space management incorporates online clock-in/out systems and icon-based information for spaces and communication.

Air quality and ventilation are crucial; if budget permits, a heat exchange system may be installed to enhance indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency. Epidemic prevention includes concealed automatic temperature detection devices, alcohol sanitisers, and storage for prevention barriers. Due to construction time pressure, spatial planning adopts modular design and materials are chosen based on market production capacity to ensure timely completion.

The ceiling design resembling tree branches incorporates the lush greenery of national parks into the office. Two new steel staircases and corridor-style bookshelf reading areas connect three floors. As there is only one on-site manager and no direct access to the third floor, two staircases have been added for effective management and control.
